Simpson Sportive 2026: Terms & Conditions

1. Acceptance of Conditions

1.1 By purchasing a ticket for Simpson Sportive 2026, you (“Participant”) accept these Terms & Conditions on your own behalf and on behalf of any person for whom you purchase tickets.
1.2 All tickets are sold subject to these Terms & Conditions. Please read carefully before purchase; any queries should be raised in writing to the Organiser at team@cyclinglegends.co.uk.
1.3 The event is organised by Simpson Cycling Club in partnership with Cycling Legends Events (together “the Organiser”).
1.4 Event HQ for the Simpson Sportive and Simpson Retro Ride is Harworth & Bircotes Town Hall, Scrooby Road, Harworth DN11 8JN.

2. Event Dates & Entry Deadlines

Simpson Sportive (timed): Sunday 6 September 2026

Deadline for all paid entries: 23:59 BST on 1 September 2026

3. Participation & Eligibility

3.1 By entering, Participants confirm they are physically capable of completing their chosen ride and accept all associated risks. Participants must withdraw if any medical condition arises before the event.
3.2 Participants agree to abide by all UK traffic laws, the Highway Code, and any additional Event Rules (see Section 9). Entry fees will not be refunded for disqualification due to rule infringements.
3.3 All Participants must register and pay online via the Cycling Legends website.
3.4 The Simpson Sportive is open to all bikes, including ebikes. The informal Tribute Ride is unsupported, at your own risk, and Participants ride entirely at their own discretion and liability.

4. Equipment & Safety

4.1 Helmet Policy: A helmet conforming to EN 1078 or equivalent standard must be worn at all times when riding. Chin-strap fastened.
4.2 Participants are responsible for ensuring their bicycle and personal kit are in safe, roadworthy condition. Clipless and toe-clip pedals are permitted.
4.3 Use of a mobile phone while riding requires dismounting.
4.4 Audio devices:

Traditional in-ear or over-ear headphones are prohibited on the Simpson Sportive and Simpson Retro Ride.

Bone-conduction headsets (e.g. AfterShokz-style devices) are permitted, provided both ear canals remain completely unobstructed and Participants can still hear external traffic, marshals and other riders.

5. Simpson Sportive Specifics

5.1 Routes & Distances (all routes fully sign-posted):

Route 1: ~60km – rolling start at 09:00

Route 2: ~100km – rolling start at 09:00

Route 3: ~160km – rolling start at 09:00

5.2 Inclusions:

Feed zones (1–2, depending on route)

Event photography (available to purchase)

Finishers’ medal, souvenir musette & race brochure

Free parking, broom wagon, mobile mechanic

6. Bookings & Payments

6.1 Entries must be paid in full by 23:59 BST on 1 September 2025. No late entries.
6.2 All bookings are subject to written email confirmation. The Organiser holds no payment card details.
6.3 Participants must supply and, if necessary, update their emergency contact details via their online account.

7. Cancellation & Refund Policy  

7.1 Participant-initiated cancellation: At the time of booking, participants have the option to purchase event insurance via XCover.

If insurance is purchased, all refund claims are handled by XCover.

If insurance is not taken out, no refunds will be given.

If no insurance was taken out and the participant provides more than 14 days notice, a transfer to the 2027 event may be given at the Organiser's discretion.

7.2 Weather-related cancellation
If an event is cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions (at the Organiser’s discretion), Participants will be offered a deferment of their entry to the equivalent 2027 event at no extra charge.

7.3 Organiser-initiated cancellation
If the Organiser cancels an event for any reason other than weather (e.g. force majeure, logistical issues), Participants may choose either:

A full refund of the entry fee; or

Deferment of their entry to the equivalent 2026 event, with no administration charge.

8. Liability & Insurance

8.1 The Organiser, its officers, agents, sponsors and volunteers accept no liability for death, personal injury, loss or damage to property except where caused by their negligence.
8.2 Participants are strongly advised to arrange their own personal accident and public liability insurance.
8.3 Under no circumstance shall the Organiser be liable for indirect or consequential losses.

9. Publicity & Data Protection

9.1 By entering, Participants grant permission for photos/video to be taken during all Festival events and used for promotional purposes across print, web and social media. To withhold consent, email team@cyclinglegends.co.uk before your event date.

10. Event Rules (Appendix 1)

Refer to Appendix 1 for full details on cycle-type criteria, start procedures, feed-zone protocols, conduct and disqualification.

11. Force Majeure & Amendments

11.1 The Organiser may alter routes, schedules or services for safety or operational reasons without liability. Any material changes will be communicated via email and on the website.
11.2 In the event of cancellation due to circumstances beyond reasonable control (e.g. severe weather, flood, industrial action, legislation), no refunds shall be offered, but the Organiser will endeavour to reschedule or defer entries.

12. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England & Wales. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Appendix 1 – Ride Rules & Equipment Standards

A. Cycles

1. Retro Ride only: Cycles (and parts) manufactured before 1995.
2. Sportive & Tribute: Any legal cycle; e-bikes allowed (see E-Bike Policy).
3. All bikes must be road-legal, safe and in good mechanical condition.
4. Clipless and toe-clip pedals permitted; no throttle-activated bikes.

B. Clothing & Equipment

1. Helmet: Mandatory EN 1078 or equivalent; chin-strap fastened whenever riding.
2. High-visibility clothing: Strongly recommended during low-light sections.
3. Mobile phones: Use only when dismounted.
4. Audio devices:
5. Traditional in-ear/over-ear headphones prohibited on Sportive & Retro Ride.
6. Bone-conduction headsets permitted if ear canals remain unobstructed and ambient sounds are clearly audible.

C. Start & Riding Conduct

1. Retro Ride: Rolling start from 10:00 in groups of up to 40.
2. Sportive: Gun starts at 07:00 & 09:00 depending on route.
3. Riders must obey UK traffic laws, the Highway Code, and marshal instructions.
4. No drafting behind motor vehicles or non-participants.

D. Feed Zones & Support

1. Feed zones every ~40 km on longer Sportive routes; one zone on Retro.
2. Personal support vehicles not permitted on course.
3. Mechanical support provided; broom wagon follows last rider.

E. Safety & Disqualification

1. The Organiser may remove or disqualify any Participant for safety breaches, misconduct or equipment non-compliance—no refund.
2. Participants ride entirely at their own risk; personal accident insurance strongly advised.

F. Publicity Consent

1. By entering, consent to photography/video for promotional use.
2. To withhold consent, email team@cyclinglegends.co.uk before your event date.
