No matter where you are in life, this book will improve it. That’s a big claim, but we’ve seen it work, we’ve experienced it.

Written with Chris Sidwells of Cycling Legends Media, and using cycling as a framework, 7-time world masters champion and highly successful entrepreneur Richard Oakes shares life lessons and tools he’s used to take him from outward success to true success. From imbalance to balance, and from material wealth but spiritual poverty, to true wealth and wellness in everything.

The Equation isn’t a memoir, it’s a masterclass, a very practical book. An active book, a book you do as you read.

There are three powerful elements - crafting a vision of your future in the present, mastering mindfulness, and building unstoppable daily practices that together result in successful progress as you define it.

As well revealing the thought processes, mindset, techniques and inner dialogue Richard applies to all aspects of his life, he also provides guided meditations via QR codes, journaling tools and a checklist to create and perfect your own equation - your map and manifesto for your life.

This book doesn’t just inspire your thinking, it transforms the way you think, the way you live and the way you are in the world. And you make those changes - The Equation provides the tools, but you achieve your future. It guides, but you decide, you do the work and you achieve.

The Equation is an inspiring, aspirational and empowering book that will help you improve life, wherever you are in it, one day at a time.

More than the physical

When I saw the blurb I was immediately intrigued. As someone in their late 50’s who rediscovered the passion for bike last year, I’ve found myself in the unexpected position of racing again after 30 years.

I’ve been on quite the journey myself over the past 12 months in becoming a better person both physically and mentally. I’m fascinated to see what I might be able to achieve and how fast I can actually go as an “older” athlete.

This isn’t a book that purports to be a training manual. Its power lies in finding what’s inside you that can be developed to support you in achieving your goals. They don’t have to be cycling related which is what makes this book so special.

I’ve read through all the content and now I’m going to dig back in and do the actual work recommended in each chapter. It will be interesting to see how Richard goes on to develop the other ideas in support of the book - the podcast, the app, building a community.

As someone very open to considering all angles in support of performance I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
